![]() receiving holy spirit When a person is saved, the Holy Spirit indwells that person's heart, and illuminates that person's understanding of Holy Scriptures, as well as convicting that person when a "wrong turn" is taken. The Holy Spirit is like a power source for a person's daily walk with the Savior, and always points the person toward Jesus. I am always reminded of a light bulb as an example. The light bulb, itself, when screwed into a light socket does nothing, but when the switch is turned on the bulb is illuminated. The Holy Spirit is like that switch that turns on the light, not only in the person's understanding of scripture but of the person's comprehension of learning how to be more like Jesus - to be more loving, to be more obedient, to be gentle and compassionate. To embolden His people for service, Jesus baptizes them with the Holy Spirit which is first evidenced by speaking in another language that they have not learned before. Everyone who is a born again Christian may experience the Baptism in the Holy Spirit if they are open to it and ask Jesus to bless them with that experience. However, it is not necessary for salvation. The Holy Spirit helps us to be strong witnesses for the Gospel of Christ; fills us with joy and unspeakable excitement about the things of the Lord; fills us with creativity and enables us to accomplish what we never thought was possible before. A new appreciation of our Lord's atoning sacrifice is brought into our minds and our spirits are lifted up to Him with love and gratitude. The Holy Spirit is not to be feared, but to be revered, and helps us to be pointed toward Jesus 24/7! ^ Back to Top ^ |
